How AFileFix's Reorder Pages works

AFileFix lets you rearrange the pages of a PDF — drag-and-drop, exact page number inputs, or one-click presets for common patterns. Everything runs in your browser; your file is never uploaded to a server.

The pages themselves don't change. AFileFix copies the original page content into a new order, preserving text selectability, fonts, images, and any annotations or form fields. Only the page sequence changes.

How do I reorder PDF pages?

  1. Upload your PDF. Drop your PDF onto the upload area, or click to browse. Files up to 50 MB are supported. Password-protected PDFs aren't supported here — use Unlock PDF first.
  2. Choose your rearrangement method. Three options work together:
    • Drag and drop: Click and drag thumbnails to a new position
    • Move/swap inputs: Specify "move page X to position Y" or "swap pages X and Y"
    • Presets: Reverse order, odd-first, even-first, duplex-scan fix
  3. Apply. AFileFix rebuilds your PDF in the new order. The result downloads as {original}_reordered.pdf.

Drag-and-drop vs move/swap — which is better?

Both produce the same output, but they have different strengths:

Drag-and-drop is intuitive for visual rearrangement — you see thumbnails and physically move them. Best for: small documents (under 20 pages), repositioning a few specific pages, or when you don't yet know the exact target order.

Move and swap inputs are exact — type "move 7 to 2" or "swap 5 and 12" and it happens precisely. Best for: longer documents where dragging is tedious, programmatic-feeling adjustments, or when you already know exactly what page goes where.

You can use both within the same session. Drag a few pages around to get close, then use exact inputs to fine-tune.

What is the duplex-scan fix preset?

A specific use case worth explaining: when you scan a double-sided document using a single-sided scanner, pages come out in the wrong order. The scanner does odd pages first (1, 3, 5, 7…), then you flip the stack and it does the even pages — but those come out in reverse (8, 6, 4, 2). The resulting PDF reads: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 6, 4, 2.

The duplex-scan fix preset reconstructs the correct order: it takes the first half of pages (1, 3, 5, 7), reverses the second half (2, 4, 6, 8), and interleaves them into 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

This works only for that specific scanning pattern. If your scanner uses a different order, the preset won't help — you'd need to use manual move/swap to reconstruct.

When should I use Reorder Pages?

Strong use cases:

  • Fixing duplex scans where pages came out in the wrong order
  • Restructuring a report after writing it in a different sequence
  • Reordering scanned receipts or invoices into chronological order
  • Moving an appendix to the back of a document
  • Reversing a PDF (last page first, for languages or use cases that require it)

Frequently asked questions

My duplex scan came out wrong but the preset didn't fix it — why?

The duplex-scan fix assumes a specific interleave pattern: odd pages first in ascending order, then even pages in descending order. If your scanner uses a different pattern (some scanners do all pages in one direction, then offer to insert the back side; others handle duplex differently), the preset won't reconstruct correctly. Use manual move/swap to handle non-standard interleaves.

I reordered wrong — can I undo?

Yes. The Reset button returns the page order to the source PDF's original sequence. After download, your source PDF on your device is unchanged — re-upload it if you need to start over.

Does reordering re-render or modify the pages?

No. AFileFix copies page content as-is into the new order. Text stays selectable, fonts and images are preserved at their original quality, annotations and form fields are intact. Only the page sequence in the document changes.
