AFileFix exists to give everyone access to powerful document tools — fast, private, and AI-powered. Core tools are free to use with no signup required. No data harvesting. No watermarks.
Tools like Split, Rotate, Watermark, and Page Numbers process your file entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your file never leaves your device and is never sent to AFileFix's servers. We have no copy of your file at any point.
Tools like Compress, Merge, Password Protect, Unlock, Repair, Edit & Sign, and PDF-to-Word upload your file to our server for processing. The file is written to a temporary location, processed (typically within seconds), and deleted from disk immediately after the response is returned. Files are never retained, logged, or used for any other purpose.
Tools like Contract Review, Chat with PDF, Invoice Scanner, and Document Comparison send your document to a third-party AI provider for analysis. AFileFix holds the file only in memory during processing — it is never written to our disk. The AI provider may retain the document for up to 30 days under their enterprise privacy terms (for safety review purposes only) and never uses it to train AI models.
How Anthropic handles API data:

About Hybrid: Tools marked Hybrid try to process your file in your browser first. They fall back to our server only if the browser can't handle the file. Server files are deleted within minutes.
About Anthropic retention: AI tools forward your document to Anthropic's enterprise API. Anthropic retains data up to 30 days for safety review, then permanently deletes it. Anthropic does not use API data to train AI models.
About Document Comparison: This is the only AI tool that briefly writes files to disk during processing — the comparison script needs file paths to operate on. Files are deleted immediately after the script returns, with a finally-block safety net to clean up if anything fails.
PDF Pipeline composes multiple operations into one workflow. Each step has its own privacy treatment depending on what the step does.

We use basic anonymous analytics to understand which tools are most useful. No personal data collected. No cookies that track you across sites. No fingerprinting. Ever.
When you tap thumbs-up or thumbs-down on a tool result, we save the vote so we can investigate issues and understand which tools work well. We store the tool name (e.g. "compress"), the vote, any optional comment you typed, and the filename string of the document you processed — never the file contents themselves. We also store your IP address and User-Agent so we can reproduce reported issues.
Feedback rows are kept indefinitely so we can spot long-running issues. To request deletion of any feedback you've submitted, email us via the Contact page.
AFileFix doesn't carry formal compliance certifications. Specifically, we don't have ISO 27001 certification, SOC 2 reports, HIPAA Business Associate Agreements, or formal GDPR Data Processing Agreements with named processors.
Our privacy architecture is designed around minimizing data exposure — most tools run in your browser without uploading files at all, server-side tools delete files immediately after processing, AI tools forward documents to Anthropic without using them for training. In practical terms, that's a strong privacy posture. But practical privacy isn't the same as formal compliance, and some use cases need formal compliance specifically.

For everyday documents — work memos, expense reports, study materials, contracts you're working on personally — AFileFix's architecture provides reasonable privacy without formal certifications. Most users don't need formal compliance; this advisory is for those who specifically do.
